NOTE: While we recommend that you attend all sessions of the workshop series to meet the learning objectives, each workshop can be attended as a standalone. Full members will also have access to view the recordings on-demand and earn up to six continuing education credits.
Workshop description: When students feel supported, they are more likely to engage in learning and have better academic outcomes. Join Dr. Samantha Fecich as she shares strategies to help beginning teachers connect with students during the first weeks of school and build upon those relationships throughout the school year. Participants will also have an opportunity to access done-for-you templates and resources that go beyond student interest surveys to develop a plan for connecting with students in ways that are meaningful and genuine.

Dr. Samantha Fecich teaches preservice teachers (future teachers) at Grove City College in Grove City, Pennsylvania. She has the honor and the pleasure of working with them in their courses related to educational technology and special education.
Objectives
- Discuss the importance of positive teacher-student relationships, connecting with students during the first weeks of school, and building upon those relationships throughout the school year.
- Explore strategies that go beyond student interest surveys and develop a plan for connecting with students in ways that are meaningful and genuine.
Special Technology Instructions
Participants will need access to an internet device and a non-school, personal Google account. SimpleK12’s Google Classroom will be utilized for the interactive and hands-on components of this workshop.
Assessment
Participants will use the templates and resources provided to develop a plan to connect with students for the upcoming school year to demonstrate their understanding of the workshop objectives and reflect on their learning.
