Are you seeking innovative ways to make solving quadratic equations more tangible and engaging in your classroom? Using manipulative tools to solve quadratic equations can significantly enhance students' understanding and retention. Join Jonathan Barnhill for this hands-on, interactive workshop as we explore practical strategies for integrating manipulatives into teaching for teaching the concept of solving quadratic equations by completing the square. Participants will also discover how to use tools such as algebra tiles, visual representations, and interactive apps to facilitate hands-on learning experiences for students. Get ready to enhance your teaching toolkit and unlock new ways to inspire and educate your students! Jonathan's expertise as a mathematics instructional specialist will equip you with the knowledge and tools you need to design engaging lessons that leverage manipulatives to enhance student engagement and proficiency in solving quadratic equations, leading to improved mathematical fluency and confidence.

This is workshop three of three for the series titled “Unlocking Mathematical Concepts: Harnessing Manipulatives in the Secondary Math Classroom.”

Key Takeaways:

  1. Discover how to use manipulatives to create engaging, hands-on lessons that simplify the process of completing the square.
  2. Gain insights into how manipulatives can help students better understand the principles and steps involved in solving quadratic equations.
  3. Learn strategies to boost student engagement and participation through interactive activities.
  4. Explore methods for assessing the impact of manipulative-based instruction on students' comprehension and problem-solving skills.
