This is session five of six for the series titled Literacy Projects for Adolescent English Learners
NOTE: While we recommend that you attend all sessions of the workshop series to meet the learning objectives, each workshop can be attended as a standalone. Full members will also have access to view the recordings on demand and earn up to six continuing education credits.
Workshop description: English Learners have a wide variety of traditions, culture, knowledge, to share with their peers. Join Shelly Terrell as she discusses how to use free, education-friendly digital publishing tools to encourage student self-expression, including scaffolds, supports, and strategies to help students complete their projects. Participants will also have an opportunity to access done-for-you templates to create their own digital storytelling project that they can immediately use with their students.

Shelly Sanchez Terrell is an award winning digital innovator, international speaker, and author of three education technology books. She has trained teachers in over 20 countries as a guest expert, consultant, and ambassador for the U.S. Embassy.
Objectives
- Evaluate a variety of free, education-friendly digital publishing tools appropriate for adolescent English Learners in grades 4-12
- Develop scaffolds, supports, and strategies to help English Learners complete their own digital storytelling projects
- Create a content-specific digital storytelling project for English Learners that enhances the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing
Special Technology Instructions
Participants will need access to an internet device and a non-school, personal Google account. SimpleK12’s Google Classroom will be utilized for the interactive and hands-on components of this workshop.
Assessment
Participants will create a content-specific digital storytelling project to demonstrate their understanding of the workshop objectives and reflect on their learning.
